Today a star was born, clarity was given, and a butterfly received its wings. Today, happiness was chosen upon waking up. The intention was set to take a step towards setting my soul free. This was regardless of how ‘big’ or ‘small’ the action or outcome would be.

Last month, I had the opportunity to witness one of the most beautiful transformations. My class received 3 caterpillars. We watched them eat, grow, and transform. Day by day, I found myself growing increasingly connected to one in particular. This particular one, I would say, was more of the “underdog.” It barely ate or moved. Every student believed it would die. But during the “final countdown,” champ (that’s the name I gave her) came back with a vengeance. She made her big debut as a beautiful monarch butterfly a few days behind, but still on time.

For me, this experience was not a coincidence. In my soul, I felt such a connection to this butterfly. It was as if she and I were one. Though her journey was a tad slower than everyone around her, she still made it out. She did not give up. She fought her way back. Because of this, she managed to ascend into her truest and rarest form. So, I leave this here for the “underdog,” the “unsure,” and the “tortoise,” so to speak. I want you to know that you got this. No matter how it looks around you, know that every step leaves a print. Each step matters, no matter how small. You got a friend in me. Spread your wings, friend, and watch you surprise yourself.
